Saint Jane Beauty Serum Review
We all know that CBD is having a major moment, but navigating the space is quite difficult. As it stands, research and testing is just hitting the ground in the industry. When something like CBD is so taboo, actually getting trustworthy information is hard.
What is fascinating to me is the use of CBD in beauty products. I take CBD orally to help with my anxiety; so exploring its topical benefits just seemed fun. What would applying this miracle product to my face due to my skin? Well, skincare brand Saint Jane decided to take matters into their own hands and launch their luxury serum and CBD infused glosses.
Here is the DEEP DIVE on Saint Jane Beauty.
Let’s give a little bit of insight into CBD so you can understand exactly what the ingredient is. CBD, or Cannabidiol, is one of the two main parts of the Hemp plant. This plant is NOT what Cannabis (marijuana) is made out of. See, CBD is the ingredient that will not cause psychedelic effects, meaning it will not make you high.
A lot of skincare and cosmetic products that say they contain CBD are misleading. They have hemp, which will not give you the same anti-inflammatory and healing benefits of Cannabis. Whether you are ingesting or topically applying CBD, you must find something full-spectrum. This means that the entire hemp plant and its properties are included in the formula. You do not lose the benefits of the fatty acids, vitamins, or proteins of the plant. All of Saint Jane's products are full-spectrum CBD and that instantly made me intrigued to try their Luxury Beauty Serum.
The brand is considered "clean," which is a term I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with. To them, responsibly sourced ingredients, a through the production process, and responsibly sourcing their ingredients. They do use botanical ingredients (more on that later) to aid in the claims of being free of toxins. Founder Casey Georgeson being no stranger to the beauty industry, found CBD to be such an important component to overall wellness. By using the ingredient, she knew she could help consumers find skin balance in an oil style serum formula.
The serum contains a justifiable 20 ingredients with full-spectrum CBD being the 4th on the inkey list. This actually is surprising considering most products with CBD have it lower down on the list, which means the concentration is low. Saint Jane has 500mg of CBD included in its 1 oz formula. The serum hopes to detox, hydrate, calm irritation, and smooth the skin. It is vegan, cruelty-free, sustainably sourced, and made in California.
I also enjoy the inclusion of Grape Seed Oil (conditioner and antioxidant) and Rosemary Leaf Extract (antioxidant, anti-microbial properties). They help protect against free radicals and any signs of aging. They tend to be used in traditional medicines and make for great ingredients to help heal acne and redness.
While all of the ingredients in the serum are great for different reasons, the ones that are of concern in this product are Sunflower Seed Oil (skin conditioner), Shea Butter (skin conditioner), Sandalwood Essential Oil (fragrance), Graveolens Flower Oil (fragrance). I am highlighting these because they are triggers for individuals who experience fungal acne. Furthermore, essential oils can be irritants to those with sensitive skin. Keep in mind that anyone with oily skin may find this product difficult because it does feel like heavier oil and does not sink in quickly. I do suggest applying this product at night as it will sit on your face for a few hours.
I have a love/hate relationship with this serum. I noticed an improvement on the single deep-rooted cyst I have on either side of my face. They did not feel raised and they were no longer red. You cannot seem them anyone, but they felt smaller to the touch. On the other hand, I noticed that it flared the fungal acne I get on standard facial hot spots (the corners of the mouth and nose). These zones of the face tend to be quite moist which makes individuals prone to producing more yeast and certain ingredients exasperate this process.
I noticed the overall redness of my face was dramatically impacted despite the blemishes it did create and the blemishes it did diminish. As I said, the formula is thick and that has to be because of the many oils that are used to carry the CBD. Ironically, I was sent this serum when I was stripping oils from my skincare routine, but I wanted to test it anyway. I paired it with a simple cleansing routine and a few of my favorite serums that were oil-free. The serum usually took about three hours to sink in and I used about 4-5 drops, really pressing it into the epidermis.
Overall, I think if someone were looking for a clean and effective serum with CBD, they should check out Saint Jane’s serum. I will continue to use it because I feel that its benefits outweigh the drawbacks. It helped soothe and decrease the size of blemishes that make me severely self-conscious and that is everything to me.
Saint Jane Luxury Beauty Serum retails for $125 and is available from Sephora, Space NK, Barneys, and Neiman Marcus.
